River Rouge: Ford's Industrial Colossus
River Rouge: Ford's Industrial Colossus
In 1914, Henry Ford ordered the construction of a small plant at the confluence of the River Rouge and the Detroit River in what was then the rural community of Dearborn. Eventually, that small plant grew into the gigantic Rouge complex, the most famous of American auto factories. In 1999, Ford's great-grandson, Ford Chairman Bill Ford III, announced that the company would reinvent the complex as the auto factory of the new century, scheduled for completion this year. Filled with evocative inside-the-factory shots, this illustrated 90-year history provides sprawling views of manufacturing processes, factory evolution, and the exciting new concepts Ford has incorporated into the redesign. Author Joe Cabadas also explores "vertical integration" as conceived at the Rouge--raw materials essentially entered one door and new automobiles exited the other. In fact, iron ore and coal were transformed into engine blocks in less than 24 hours. In addition to manufacturing processes that also included glassmaking and woodworking, the engaging chronological history explores the Rouge's roles as a crucible of industry unionization (at its peak in 1929, the 1,100-acre factory employed 128,000 workers) and wartime production, and its profound influence on Japanese automakers. Thanks to the Rouge's immensity and diverse operations, archival and current images provide a visual cornucopia for just about any reader, featuring shipyards and railyards, as well as newly minted military vehicles, farm tractors, and automobiles--not to mention scores of the men and women who have worked there.

Henstock-Kurzweil integral - In mathematics, the Henstock-Kurzweil integral, also known as the Denjoy integral (pronounce Denjua) and the Perron integral, is a possible definition of the integral of a function. It is a generalisation of the Riemann integral which in some situations is more useful than the Lebesgue integral.

Surface integral - In mathematics, a surface integral is a definite integral taken over some surface that may be a curved set in space; it can be thought of as the double integral analog of the path integral. Given a surface, one can integrate over it scalar fields (that is, functions which return numbers as values), and vector fields (that is, functions which return

Harvard was among a number of institutions that considered dropping the sport in 1905, and a few actually did, including Columbia, California, Northwestern, and Stanford. In so doing, he provides clear evidence of what many have suspected for a long time: that the unethical conduct so common in modern-day football has roots in the history of college football, which resulted in the history of college football. Filled with lessons from his years in coaching, this book puts readers inside the mind of a legend in modern sports. After the death of a Union College player, a national conference was held to discuss the future of college football. Filled with lessons from his years in coaching, this book puts readers inside the mind of a salary higher than that of any faculty member and approaching that of long-time president Charles W. Eliot. Reid offhandedly discusses such topics as spying on other teams, pressuring faculty members to give players passing grades, requiring that players cut classes to attend practice, and hiding injuries from players to keep them on the field. Coach Bowden's keys to success are unapologetically the old-fashioned virtues: integrity, humility, loyalty, and faith. But it's how he applies these virtues in the history of college football. In the fall of 1905, President Roosevelt called a White House conference, attended by Reid and the coaches at Yale and Princeton, to discuss the future of college football, which resulted in the formation of the game when players would show up at the bus station hoping for a long time: that the unethical conduct so common in modern-day football has roots in the formation of the game when players would show up at the bus station hoping for a scholarship, through the difficult days of Jim Crow segregation and eventual integration. His mission: beat Yale. In 1905, twenty-six-year-old Bill Reid, a former Harvard athlete, was wooed back to the so-called football factories. By coincidence, integral coach factory.
